Our Team

Nidi

Yucatecan by luck and teacher by choice. I love talking and eating, so I teach Spanish and Yucatecan cooking. I studied Latin American Literature and, among other curiosities, I love the sea but can’t swim, I’m afraid of chickens, turkeys, and guinea fowl, and I have one dog and four cats. I like almost all music, going to the movies, gin and tonics, and dirty martinis. Hola is my home, and if you want to come into my home, kindness, respect, and a desire to learn and teach are very important requirements. I promise you a great experience. If you like coffee and/or tea, you need to go to “El Hoyo Casa de Té” (link). If you want a delicious and special cocktail, you need to check out the bar at “Bar de Barrio” (link). And if you want a cold beer and Yucatecan snacks, Bar la Ruina (link) is the place to go. See you soon.

Raul

I have been part of the HOLA family for seven years. I studied for a degree in nutrition, but like my ex, it was a big mistake. However, thanks to this, I discovered that I liked teaching. I have known Nidi since we were 12 years old, and in 2019 she invited me to be part of the HOLA family. Obviously, I accepted, and the rest is history. I love my job and consider myself good at it. I enjoy seeing how my students improve their skills, and it fills me with happiness and pride to know that wherever they go, they will take a little piece of me with them, just as I will take a little piece of them. I am proudly Yucatecan, and I enjoy sharing the history and lifestyle of my people and talking about my favorite places so that everyone can get to know my beautiful city. Seafood is my passion, so you should visit El Marlin Azul (link), a restaurant in the city center, and enjoy a mixed ceviche or some octopus tostadas.

Fer

The teacher who teaches Spanish with the same energy with which he dances salsa and bachata: with rhythm, joy, and zero chance of getting bored. I’ve been teaching for five years, after studying science, mathematics, and even psychology. I studied engineering physics—yes, that degree where they explain why the universe doesn’t collapse—and then psychology, because understanding people is another level of complexity. Although I love taking things apart to see how they work, I discovered that my true place is in the classroom. I am passionate about sharing the culture of my state, telling stories, starting unexpected conversations, and laughing with my students as we learn. People say I’m creative and patient. When I’m not teaching, I’m probably playing bass, drums, or dancing salsa or bachata, because why walk when you can dance? I recommend you visit my favorite place: “LaLonchera en la Calle” (link) (where, by the way, I ate my 5,000th hamburger).

Miranda

I do a little bit of everything. I studied English teaching, and although I like teaching, the academic-administrative side has a piece of my heart (and sometimes my sanity). I try to keep everything running smoothly, and although the printer sometimes lets me down, I’ve learned that with a little patience (and restarting the internet), almost everything can be fixed. If the teachers come up with new material, I’ve already made it, printed it, and organized it in folders. I like to think that I make our days at school a little more enjoyable. The most important part of my day is lunch. While I’m eating breakfast, I’m already thinking about what I’m going to have for dinner. I love a good brunch. Cucú Bistro and La Libertad are my trusted recommendations.

Costri

She has lived at Hola for six years and is the shyest member of the feline team. White with gray stripes, she prefers her personal space and does not enjoy hugs like Nina does. But if she chooses you—because she always chooses—she will give you eternal loyalty and a quiet but deep love. She is discreet, sensitive, and an expert at observing everything from a strategic corner.

Suave

Affectionately known as suabebé, he lived with Nidi for 11 years and has now been retired in Hola for 3 years. Yucatecan at heart and gray tabby like a small domestic jaguar, his mission in life is to knead anyone who sits in his chair. He has a peculiar meow, loves to be petted, and, although he is not exactly friends with Nina and Costri, he secretly takes care of them… but very secretly.

Nina

She has been living at Hola Spanish School for seven years, and although she is gray, everyone knows that she is the one who really calls the shots. She is the Headmistress: she supervises classrooms, takes attendance without warning, and decides who deserves the honor of petting her. With her feline elegance and firm character, she keeps order… and the hearts of all the students.
